This Privacy Policy explains how Canary ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Canary mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

• Account information: when you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored securely).
• Content you create: the words, decks, favorites, and settings you save within the App.
• Camera & photos: when you scan words, the App processes the image to recognize text. Photos are used only to extract words and are not stored by us beyond what's needed to provide the feature.
• Notifications: if you enable reminders, we use device notification permissions to send them at the times you choose.
• Usage data: basic technical information needed to keep the App running reliably.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide and improve the App's features.
• To save and sync your vocabulary, decks, and preferences.
• To send study reminders you have opted into.
• To respond to support requests and communicate with you.

Camera and Photo Access

The App requests camera and photo library access only to let you scan text from books and images. Image processing for text recognition is used solely to identify words you choose to save. We do not sell your photos or use them for advertising.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with trusted service providers strictly to operate the App (for example, secure hosting), and when required by law.

Data Retention & Deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the App (Profile → Delete Account), which permanently removes your associated data. You may also request deletion by emailing us.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
